The family room is an ideal place to 
create memories; whether everybody is gathered together to watch a movie or play a game, there is always something happening. Do you feel like you need to give this room in your home a makeover? Is it a small room? Making your small family room appear both large and fun is easy with the tips below.
When coming up with the new theme for the room, it is important to take color under consideration. Many people choose to make changes by painting their walls; this is one of the least expensive options available. Whether you choose to do the job yourself or hire a professional, it can be completed within a weekend and does not require a great deal of skill. Should you choose to paint your walls a dark color, keep in mind that the space will feel smaller. Picking a light color, such as yellow or pink, can make a big difference.
Mirrors Give Illusion of Space
There are other options at your disposal to add a sense of illusion to the space. You may have found yourself in a room with a large mirror on one of the walls in the past, and thought it strange; this was probably done to help the area seem larger. Mirrors are abundant on the market and can be found in differing sizes just about anywhere. If you are dealing with a tight budget, garage sales or going out of business sales should be where you check. Do not be afraid to barter the price if you feel it is marked too high.
Less Furniture
Have you ever been tempted to cram as much furniture and accessories as possible into a small room? While you may have believed that this would solve your space problem, in actuality you have only made it worse. Sure, you can move around, but you may find it hard to feel comfortable in such a setting. Instead of making up for lack of space with this kind of method, you should keep less furniture and decorations around. Minimize what you have sitting around, and the room will benefit greatly.
Accessorize
If furniture and paint colors do not excite you, this may be considered the fun part. Go out of your way to make the family room a showcase of what your family is by using fun patterns and accessories; make or purchase a set of curtains for the windows; choose tasteful and interesting decorations; frame images of your family and arrange them like a collage on the wall. The possibilities are nearly endless, and only your imagination can really limit what you do. If you can, try to include friends, outside family members and even neighbors in your project. The sense of community can help you in more ways than one.
The world would prove to be a boring place if everybody had the same interests and tastes; when it comes to how you put your family room together, remember that it is all about your household. Although you should think about space and how to make the room appear larger, you should not compromise what you like too much in the process. Think about what you want to do, and include your family members in the home improvement project. After all, they will be using the room, too. No matter what you like, there is bound to be decor and colors on the market that can pander to you.
